At The Repair Association, our mission is to foster a repair-friendly society that values consumer rights, sustainability, and technological innovation. To ensure that we remain true to these principles, it begins with the composition of our team, leadership, and especially our board of directors.

Our board members are industry leaders and visionaries in repair rights, technology policy, consumer advocacy, and environmental sustainability. They bring a rich tapestry of perspectives, strategic acumen, and governance expertise, ensuring that The Repair Association effectively and sustainably champions its mission


Gay Gordon-Byrne
Executive Director

Gay Gordon-Byrne is one of the founding members of The Repair Association. She is a frequent speaker and writer on technology repair, reuse, secondary markets, and sustainability topics. Gay is a repair policy expert in her own right with over 40 years of experience as a vendor, lessor, and used equipment dealer for large commercial IT users. She is the author of "Buying, Supporting and Maintaining Software and Equipment - an IT Manager's Guide to Controlling the Product Lifecycle.”

Kyle Wiens
President

Kyle Wiens is the President of the Board of Directors for The Repair Association.

Kyle is also the CEO of iFixit, the free repair manual. He’s dedicated his life to defeating the second law of thermodynamics, a battle fought in the courtroom as often as in the workshop. Kyle regularly speaks on design for repair, service documentation, and the environmental impact of manufacturing. His writing has appeared in The Atlantic, Harvard Business Review, Wired, Popular Mechanics, and the Wall Street Journal.

MAtt ZieminskI
Vice President

Matt Zieminski is the Vice President of the Board of Directors for The Repair Association.

Matt is also a seasoned operations leader and is currently a Product Operations Manager at iFixit, where he focuses on streamlining repair programs for Manufacturers. With a background in driving strategic growth and innovation, he's led multi-million-dollar projects and built service programs for Target and Walmart. Matt excels in developing high-performance teams and operational budgets. A 'Technicians First' advocate, he serves on the board at The Repair Association, pushing for repair rights and sustainability.

Todd Bone
Secretary/Treasurer

Todd founded XS International in 1990, helping to build an independent IT support & R2v3-certified ITAD organization. He holds board of director positions with the world's two most prominent associations for independent IT support providers – SIA – the Service Industry Association (TPM), and ASCDI (ITAD), and he currently oversees the finance operations of The Repair Association as Treasurer.

Paul Roberts
Board Member

Paul is a seasoned reporter, editor, and industry analyst with more than 15 years of experience covering the information technology security space. His writing about cyber security has appeared in publications including The Christian Science Monitor, MIT Technology Review, The Economist Intelligence Unit, CIO Magazine, ZDNet and Fortune Small Business. He has appeared on NPR’s Marketplace Tech Report, KPCC AirTalk, Fox News Tech Take, Al Jazeera and The Oprah Show.

 

Willie CAde
Board Member

Willie Cade is the CEO of Graceful Development Solutions and the Founder of the Electronics Reuse Conference.Willie is the grandson of Theo Brown, inventor of the manure spreader. Theo registered 158 patents during his lifetime. Most of those patents are related to the John Deere manure spreader.

 

Aaron Perzanowski
Board Member

Aaron Perzanowski is a law professor whose research focuses on the intersection of personal and intellectual property. His books include The End of Ownership (MIT Press 2016) (with Jason Schultz) and The Right to Repair (Cambridge University Press 2022). He's a graduate of Kenyon College and the UC Berkeley School of Law.

 

Kit Walsh
Board Member

Kit Walsh has been at the forefront of legal battles to defend the rights to repair, understand, and modify electronic devices for many years. She led the successful effort to secure the legal right to repair and modify automobile firmware and establish the right for security researchers to investigate potential vulnerabilities in the firmware in order to protect the public. She has since worked for nearly a decade in courts and with regulators to ensure that digital devices improve the lives of the people who depend upon them, rather than simply extracting value for manufacturers.

 

Kevin O’Reilly
Board Member

For the past five years, Kevin has been a leader in the push for Right to Repair legislation.

Kevin's research has demonstrated how modern tractors are engineered to restrict independent repair, how dealership consolidation further erodes farmers' repair choices, and how Right to Repair would save U.S. farmers $4.2 billion per year. He has organized hundreds of farmers and medical repair technicians from all over the country to push for change at all levels of government, and worked closely with legislators at the state and federal level to develop and advance effective legislation.

Most recently, he helped lead the coalitions that passed Right to Repair laws in Colorado and California. Kevin's work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, CNN, NPR, Politico, and more.

 

Chuck Johnston
Board Member

Chuck is CSO at goTRG, a global leader in the implementation and execution of omnichannel and supply chain solutions. He was formerly the Director of Reverse Logistics for The Home Depot, responsible for all return and repair operations. Prior to that he oversaw the Reverse Logistics operations for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Chuck has been involved in the industry for over 20 years and is considered one of the foremost experts in the field.

In addition to his experience in the reverse space, he has led numerous Specialty Distribution Operations in his 23 years with Wal-Mart. While at Wal-Mart, Chuck was responsible for the development of a profitable, “best in class” Reverse Logistics organization that is still the benchmark for all other retailers.

Claudia Betzner
Board Member

Claudia is the Executive Director at the Service Industry Alliance (SIA). She began her career as a founding executive at FEDX where service was key. She went on to found her own company focused on events, public relations, and communications.

In 1986 she joined the Service Industry Association and became Executive Director in 1989. Claudia has over 30 years of experience in B2B partnerships and networking.

The Repair Association's Board Advisors consist of seasoned experts in areas such as repair rights advocacy, technological innovation, public policy, and community building. They play a pivotal role in advancing the organization's initiatives for the betterment of repair practices, consumer rights, and sustainable solutions.

Mark Schaffer
Owner | Schaffer Environmental LLC

Mark Schaffer is an experienced electronics industry engineer and environmental consultant providing leading supply chain, environmental and sustainability consulting, and project management services to organizations around the world as president of Schaffer Environmental.

He has more than 20 years of experience in the electronics industry, working with standards development, compliance/regulatory issues, applying real world experiences to existing and emerging environmental trends. Since 2011, he has provided ongoing technical project management with the International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI). He currently serves as the Secretary for the OBADA Foundation board of directors. He was on the board of Repair.org from 2015-2023.

 

Nathan Proctor
Senior Campaign Director | U.S. PIRG

Nathan Proctor is the Senior Director for PIRG's Right to Repair campaign efforts. He has written or co-written 10 different reports on the topic, and his work has been cited by the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, NPR and many others. An 18-year veteran of social change campaigns, he lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two children.

From 1975 to 1989 Joseph Marion has served in various capacities including President of the Marion Company, a privately held technology corporation based in Hackensack, NJ

Marion Co was an IBM Business Partner specializing in leasing and maintaining IBM Mid-Range and Mainframe computers and AT&T telecom products. WMC was sold to Datapoint’s Intelogic Trace Division in 1989. Joseph serves as President of the Association of Service and Computer Dealers (ASCDI) an international not for profit trade association of technology resellers and service providers whos’ members focus on the reuse, resale, and disposition of technology equipment in an environmentally responsible fashion and the protection of customer data. Joe is a force in the international Information Technology Asset Disposition industry (ITAD) and has been involved in initiatives in the United States and Europe centered around the disposition of information technology and communications equipment in an environmental responsible manner and the protection of customer confidential information.

Sina Khanifar
CEO | Waveform

Sina is the co-founder and CEO of Waveform.com, the leading online seller of cell phone signal boosters and distributed antenna systems (DAS). Sina is also a co-founder at OpenSignal, and a Technology Fellow at the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Rohi Sukhia
Founder & CEO | TradeLoop

Rohi Sukhia is founder and CEO of the wholesale trading network Tradeloop and founder of the Open Blockchain for Asset Disposition (OBADA) alliance. Rohi previously spent seven years in engineering sales and marketing at Intel and holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Cornell.

 

Barbara Maguire
Vice President | ISS Solutions

As Vice President of Healthcare Technology Management, Barbara Maguire directs all aspects of the healthcare technology management service delivery, quality, compliance, client loyalty, asset management software platform, supply chain, and central dispatch functions for commercial clients as well as for ISS Solutions’ parent organization, Geisinger.

Barbara holds a BSEE from George Washington University, a MS biomedical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Hartford and an MBA from Baruch College / CUNY. She earned a certificate in cybersecurity from Rutgers University Continuing Education. She is a Certified Clinical Engineer and a Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM).

Barbara also enjoys training and racing in triathlons and has completed the Lake Placid Iron Man, although now has become completely addicted to Pickleball.

 

Peter Mui
Founder | Fixit clinic

Peter Mui is the founder of Fixit Clinic (www.fixitclinic.org) which conveys critical thinking and troubleshooting skills through both in-person community repair events around the U.S. and now, globally via Intergalactic Zoom Fixit Clinics and Discord: Global Fixers. Over 1000 Fixit Clinic events have been hosted at libraries, elementary, secondary and high schools, colleges and universities, and through teleconferencing software. “Education, entertainment, empowerment, elucidation, and, ultimately, enlightenment through all-ages do-it-together hands-on fix-n-learn community-sponsored and community-led discovery, disassembly, troubleshooting and repair.”

Wayne Seltzer has managed the Boulder U-Fix-It Clinic [http://boulderufixitclinic.org] since its founding in 2013. At these free community events, participants with items to repair are paired with volunteer fix-it coaches. The results are informed consumers who are likely to support #righttorepair initiatives. Some of the interesting repair projects result in the publication of repair guides, amplifying volunteer time by help many other repair efforts.
